uTip # 1 – Using FPA in COTS Software Acquisitions Released

uTips (Usage Tips) provide insight into potential uses of function points to support an organization’s business needs. While uTips provide insight on usage opportunities, they do not provide detailed direction on the application of the IFPUG FPA method in a particular situation. When necessary, the uTip maybe be followed by additional content on the topic providing specific how-to guidance. uTips are not rules, but rather interpretation and application of the rules, and provide guidance using a realistic example to explain the topic being covered.

IFPUG offers uTips at no charge to the international function point community to stimulate the further use and consistent application of the IFPUG FPA Method.

SNAP Assessment Practices Manual v 2.1 is Released

The International Function Point Users Group (IFPUG) is pleased to announce the new release of the Software Non-functional Assessment Process (SNAP) Assessment Practices Manual 2.1 under a Creative Commons 3.0 Attribution-Non Commercial-Share Alike License.

 Release 2.1 contains clarifications, based on questions and comments of users.

  • The sizing of Coda Data was inserted into the relevant sub-categories.
  • The term “extensive mathematical operations” is widely explained in sub-category 1.2 Logical and Mathematical Operations
  • In sub-category 1.5, the SCU definition better explains the case of using several logical files.
  • More clarifications per users requests

To obtain a copy of the manual, navigate to the IFPUG Online Store, select the Featured Product: Software Non-functional Assessment Process Manual (APM) 2.1 No Charge,  and complete and submit an order for an electronic copy.  You will be asked to log in, as either a member or a guest, in order to check out.

IFPUG Design-a-New-Banner Contest Extended to May 21!

We’ve had some excellent submissions, but we’d like to see some more.

 So the contest is extended for two more weeks!  The new closing date is May 21.

 Put your creative juices to work and develop a proposed new banner for us!  Create a JPEG file 1000 pixels wide by 288 high that will appear at the top of our mailings and on the website!  Submit it by attaching it to an email addressed to CMC@ifpug,org with subject: New Banner Contest.

 The winning design will receive a $500 award from IFPUG and will be recognized with an electronic announcement from the CMC. All business friendly submissions will be recognized for the submission.

 Submitted designs will be shared including electronically, for the purposes of review and selection and will be posted on the IFPUG Website (note IFPUG reserve the right to not share designs if they are do not meet business friendly standards or are not supportive of IFPUG).

  ALL submissions will become the exclusive property of IFPUG including any future modifications or derivative works for any and all purposes for which the design may be used. All submitted materials may be used to support IFPUG marketing and communication.
