IFPUG offers uTips at no charge to the international function point community to stimulate the further use and consistent application of the IFPUG FPA Method.

• In sub-category 1.5, the SCU definition better explains the case of using several logical files.

To obtain a copy of the manual, navigate to the IFPUG Online Store, select the Featured Product: Software Non-functional Assessment Process Manual (APM) 2.1 No Charge,  and complete and submit an order for an electronic copy.  You will be asked to log in, as either a member or a guest, in order to check out.

 Put your creative juices to work and develop a proposed new banner for us!  Create a JPEG file 1000 pixels wide by 288 high that will appear at the top of our mailings and on the website!  Submit it by attaching it to an email addressed to CMC@ifpug,org with subject: New Banner Contest.

 The winning design will receive a $500 award from IFPUG and will be recognized with an electronic announcement from the CMC. All business friendly submissions will be recognized for the submission.

 Submitted designs will be shared including electronically, for the purposes of review and selection and will be posted on the IFPUG Website (note IFPUG reserve the right to not share designs if they are do not meet business friendly standards or are not supportive of IFPUG).

  ALL submissions will become the exclusive property of IFPUG including any future modifications or derivative works for any and all purposes for which the design may be used. All submitted materials may be used to support IFPUG marketing and communication.

Here’s an event you don’t want to miss! Not if you are interested in software measurement, estimation, contracting, or quantitative software project management. It will happen in downtown Rio de Janeiro in September/October 2013. Two conferences will be held in the same venue, on the same week: ISMA 8, the eighth edition of IFPUG’s International Software Measurement & Analysis Conference, and the new IT Confidence Conference organized by the International Software Benchmarking Standards Group – ISBSG. ISMA 8, IT Confidence, and co-located training and certification events together will result in the longest metrics event ever held (10 days). Planned sessions:

The symposium covered IFPUG-ISMA community directions, plus the current questions and challenges for IT today and where metrics provides valuable insights, leading to improved decision making.

The IFPUG Board of Directors actively participated and presented in conjunction with regional industry leaders. (IFPUG Board includes: Systems Integrators, Financial, Insurance and Consulting Sectors)

This was a highly interactive symposium, fostering discussions that will drive Information Technology maturity on an international scale.

Presentations included:

• Timothy Grayson, director of product development at epost Canada Post, who  also helped moderate, speaking on the key missing concept of “Spaces in Between” for software metrics.

• Stuart MacKay, CTO Government Services HP Canada. providing insights regarding the complex estimation and integration challenges being faced today.

• John Cousens, Public Sector Canada Salesforce.com, presenting new agile SaaS models and where function points have quantified realized cost savings

• Charles Bokor, Strategic Management Consultant, and University software performance measurement evangelist discussing “black hole, super sized projects”.

Presentations from IFPUG Leaders included:

• Joe Schofield, Certified CMMi instructor, after a 31 year career at Sandia Laboratories,  highlighting the need for “fidelity metrics” to resolve common pain points in the software industry.

• Tom Cagley, of DCG, providing innovative insights with an agile twist!

• Lori Holmes of Q/P Management Group providing a real-life outsourcing case study where ongoing metrics provided the data to make difficult decisions.

• Christine Green of HP highlighting non-functional software sizing considerations in 2013.

• Mauricio Aguiar of ti Métricas providing updates from Brazil, the leading country in Software Metrics!

• Steven Woodward of Cloud Perspectives, highlighting cloud computing metrics considerations.
