CERTIFIED FUNCTION POINT SPECIALIST (CFPS)
CERTIFICATION

The Certification Committee's mission is to develop and maintain a professional Function Point certification program for counting practitioners, training materials and software tools.
Certified Function Point Specialist (CFPS) Exam
The CFPS exam is a rigorous test of both the knowledge of the counting rules laid out in the current release of the CPM and the ability to apply those rules. The exam consists of three sections: Definition, Implementation and Case. An individual must have at least 90% correct on each section of the exam or at least 90% overall correct with at least 80% correct on each section of the exam in order to receive the CFPS designation.
The CFPS Exam is now automated and available in English, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian and Korean. Japanese translation to follow. To sign up for the CFPS automated exam, go to the Prometric Testing Site. To lean more about tips on taking the exam, listen to this podcast or refer to the Automated CFPS Exams links in the menu at the left.
CFPS Certification Extension Program (CEP)
The CFPS Certification Extension program provides an alternative to the CFPS exam. Individuals may extend their current level of CFPS certification for two (2) years by completing activities in at least four (4) Activity Categories in such a way that they accumulate a minimum of 100 CFPS Certification Extension Credits (CEC) before their current certification expires. Such an extension may be applied for twice, after which continued CFPS certification would require reexamination.
The IFPUG BOD reserves the right to discontinue the CFPS Certification Extension program at any time, without advance notice.
Retaining CFPS Designation
An individual may remain certified by either taking the CFPS exam in the third year of certification or by applying for up to two extensions through the CFPS Certification Extension Program.
Effective July 1, 2003, all individuals must be members of IFPUG in order to sit for the CFPS exam or to apply for the Certification Extension Program, and must remain a member in good standing for the duration of his/her CFPS certification period.
