Assume the effort to develop a simple external input in a J2EE environment is 60 hours. These 60 hours involve detailed design, coding and unit test activities only. The implementation of this EI is distributed across three different J2EE components i.e. JSP, Session Bean and Entity Bean. Each component segment is developed by a different team/person. Does anyone have any experience in the distribution of the overall effort, 60 hours, across each distinct component? The EI estimate represents the 'total' effort view. How can this effort be partitioned in a distributed component environment?

Hi Vincent
Function Point deals with the total size of the product delivered and the effort is estimated for this size. I guess there is no standard way of partitioning effort in a distributed component environment. Perhaps, based on previous experience in implementing projects in this fashion in your organization, one can divide the total effort hours.

Hi,

There are general guidelines available, as far as, distribution of total efforts across design, development and testing is concerned. But I have not seen such distribution guidelines, across components like JSP, Session Bean and Entity Bean. I think, this should be derived based on your past experience as recommened by Sujatha.
